The Hospital is a 110 beds hospital and it is a non-specialist district hospital providing outpatient services and inpatient services.

Background

Initially the establishment of this hospital was built and functioned in 1888 at the end of Jalan Raja to collide with Jalan Station. The place has now been erected with the building of the Merdeka Hall, the Public Works Department and the Territorial Army.

The existing building is the house (Kuarters) at the ‘Gate 10’ of Jalan Station and Territorial Army Building. The location was very suitable at that time as there were nearby government offices. In 1917, after the First World War, the hospital had moved to the location at Jalan Temoh, 1 km. from home.

The facilities provided were 9 ward facilities with 217 beds, Surgical Hall, Office, Draft, Mortuary and 14 kuli line built. In 1940, Punjab troops were stationed in the hospital as their camp to fight the Japanese army and the Hospital was transferred to an area within Batang Padang Estate, Pahang Road, Tapah. In 1905 part of St. Louis church Mary was taken to the hospital site now.

Upon completion of the war in 1945, the hospital was transferred back to its present location. That year was created a special ward for Leprosy patients (at that time called the Attap Ward) because the ward was made and designed by the iron and the roof of the nipah where all the tools used for the patient were burned after the leprosy patients came out or died.

Since 1962 some old buildings have been renovated. Some new buildings are also built.
