Editorial policy

Mythology has many variant tellings. Where sources disagree we say so rather than choosing one version silently, and we name the source of a story where it is known.

Names follow the most common English spelling, with alternatives listed. Lists are for general reference. Belief and practice in living religions (for example Hindu, Shinto and Yoruba traditions) are described respectfully and are not presented as fiction.

We do not publish invented quotes, invented sources or claims about real living people. Pages are updated when errors are reported; see corrections.
