Greek and Roman names

Ares is Mars, Hermes is Mercury: convert the names of Greek and Roman gods, with Etruscan names where known.

Why the names differ

Romans identified many of their gods with Greek ones and took over their myths, a practice ancient writers called interpretatio. The match is rarely perfect: Mars was far more honoured in Rome than Ares in Greece, and Roman gods kept older Italic roles of their own. Etruscan names are given only where the identification is well established.
