Background

Hospital Segamat, located 6 kilometers from Segamat City Center, is a nucleus based hospital replacing the 76-year old hospital. The concept of the nucleus is inspired by the United Kingdom Health Department and modified according to the conditions in Malaysia.

It was built in the Sixth Malaysia Plan in 1992 and operated on 27 March 1995 where it is a hospital with basic specialist services. It has a 60 acre site with a construction cost of RM 91.4 million. Segamat Hospital operates with a capacity of 314 beds. Services include Segamat District, Gemas and southern part of Pahang State.

The first Segamat District Hospital is located near the Segamat City Railway Station on the main road to Muar. Its area is 15 acres and was built in 1920. The first wad was created when it was the Tibi ward and in 1922 another ward was constructed to place injuries.

The next was followed by the construction of Babysitting / Maternity and Child Ward in 1927 and 1929. As a result, many new wards and buildings which provided support services as well as a polyclinic were built up until 1967.

In the 1970s, the Hospitals were gazetted as a hospital with the services of Surgeons and Medical Specialists who had 224 beds. In the 1980’s, Midwifery and Gynecological Services were established in this hospital. In 1993, however, ahead of the Sixth Malaysia Plan, the construction of a new hospital was made until the establishment of the Hospital Segamat, which is operating until now
