This can be achieved by providing efficient, effective and effective treatment, rehabilitation, treatment and rehabilitation services with emphasis on underprivileged groups.
RCBM Hospital was originally a Rehabilitation Centre for lepers which was built in 1925. In 1974, Out Patient service was opened to the public until today.
Background
The first lepers settlement in Sarawak was located at the 5th Mile, Rock Road Kuching. Soon it became too small to accomodate leprosy patients. In 1917, a fund was set up in memory of the late Second Rajah Sir Charles Brooke to build a second leper settlement.
The general public donated very generously towards this memorial fund making it possible to build a new leper settlement located at Satang Island in 1924. However, this location was proved to be unsuitable due to disruption of its essential services. On 10th October 1925, leprosy patients were relocated to RCBM Settlement.
Patients from as far as Sabah and Brunei were also admitted to RCBM settlement. In 1926, Government took over full responsibility of the management of the leper settlement. The Settlement was renamed as Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital in 1962 and remains so till today. Today, RCBM Hospital also provide Out patients services for general public health
