DESCRIPTION

Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II set up for help an individual achieve and maintain a health standard to enable him to carry out productive economic and social life

This can be achieved by providing efficient, effective and effective treatment, rehabilitation, treatment and rehabilitation services with emphasis on underprivileged groups.

Background

The Kota Bharu General Hospital commenced operations in the 1920s. The building is located on the outskirts of Kota Bharu Town which is now a building of Kota Bharu Municipal Council now. The hospital’s initial building consists of two buildings, one building known as the “European Ward” and one more building for the people of Kelantan.

The services provided at that time were Medical and Surgical and these cases were placed in one ward and this included maternity cases. At the same time the construction of a new hospital building began and completed in 1938.

The number of members who served at that time consisted of two doctors, Dr. Gimlet as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and assisted by Dr. Mark Loi. Supporting members consist of a Hospital Supervisor, 5 Dresser (Administrative Assistant), a Matron and 4 Nurses.

In 1938 the transfer from the hospital to the roof of the new hospital building (stone) began in stages except for the delivery of maternity wards (now Kota Bharu Maternal And Child Health Clinic). The transfer was completed in 1950.

The new Kota Bharu General Hospital’s new building was fully operational in 1938 with 8 wards and the services offered have been upgraded. These services are Medical / Surgical / General Diseases Wad (VD) / Wad Leprosy (Leprosy) and the last ward to move here is Maternity Ward.

In the same year Kota Bharu General Hospital got a Surgeon, Dr. K. D. Fraser, he was the first surgeon to serve the State of Kelantan. In December 1938 the war broke out where Japan had entered Kota Bharu and had used the hospital as their base for a week and at the same time recognized the employees of Kota Bharu General Hospital. At that time Dr. Evan (CMO) and Dr. Fraser (Surgeon) has left Kota Bharu to head to Singapore. Indirectly Dr. R. S. Arurampalam assumed the position of CMO.

After suffering defeat in the first world war in 1943, the Japanese left Kota Bharu. In early 1944 the administration of Kota Bharu General Hospital was taken over by the British Medical Army (BMA) under the administration of Dr. Major Flowski. He administered the hospital for one year and handed over this administration to Dr. Evan in 1946 followed by Dr. Gibson in 1948 and Dr. Issac until 1950.

In 1950 Dr. R. E. Anderson has taken over Dr. Issac as CMO. He started a new hospital development plan. A Nurses’ Hostel was established where the existing Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic was located (O & G). He also eliminated the “European Ward”.

In the era of 50’s of services enhanced, dental care services were held and inaugurated by Al-Marhum KDTMM Sultan Yahya Petra Ibni Al-Marhum Sultn Ibrahim. As a result of increased tuberculosis (TIBI), in 1958 the construction of TB Ward was initiated and was inaugurated on June 5, 1961 with 21 Zulhijjah 1380 by Al-Marhum KDYMM Sultan Yahya Petra Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim.

Kota Bharu Hospital in this millennium, continues to move towards excellence under the leadership of credible directors, starting from Dato ‘Dr. Abd. Razak Bin Hj. Kechik, followed by Dr. Hussin b. Othman, Dr. Mary Abraham and so on Y. Bhg. Datin Dr. Hjh Aesah @ Zaharah bt. Hj. Awang, Dr. Mohamad bin Ismail, Dr. Ghazali Hasni bin Md. Hassan, Dr. Wan Hazimah Wan Mohamed and now Dr. Hjh. Selasawati bt. Hj. Ghazali.

Under their leadership, the Kota Bharu Hospital continues to strive for success as a result of the 2002 Hospital Kota Bharu received the Prime Minister’s Quality Award (Public Sector) and the KKM Special Award in conjunction with the quality day.

The success of the Kota Bharu Hospital is engraved, not only at the national level, but also for the International level. In 2004, Kota Bharu obtained a certification by CONFRAC by France and BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 (UKAS) by the United Kingdom. Indeed, the history of Kota Bharu Hospital, which has always been a great place since its inception, has positioned itself as a glorious and distant institution to date. It is therefore desirable for the hospital to be recognized by the new name of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital on 5 September 2005.
