Background
The construction of Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang was planned in the 60s and was completed in May 1971. The first patient transferred to the hospital was a psychiatric patient from observation ward at Queen Elazabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu.
While psychiatric patients from Sim Sim Buli Hospital, Sandakan (the first Psychiatric Hospital) were transferred to the hospital starting June 06, 1981.
Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang is the only hospital hospital in Sabah and is categorized as a specialist hospital specializing in psychiatric treatment with 302 beds. In addition, it is also known as the Detoxification Center for Drug Addicts on June 16, 1983. In addition, this hosptial also places patients from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in “Medical Extension”.
HMBP has undergone many progress in terms of infrastructure, policy and direction of psychiatric care according to current developments under its 8 directors.
Now, with the slogan “Psychiatric Care towards Holistic Approach”, HMBP has successfully created the first psychiatric institution in Malaysia to be awarded with both MS ISO 9001: 2000 and Accreditation certificates. On November 29, 2005, the HMBP was proud when HMBP was awarded with the “Chief Minister Quality Award” in conjunction with the Sabah State Level Quality Day.
The hospital is now a reference hospital for all psychiatric psychiatric cases for 19 hospitals and all Health Clinics. Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang is located 6 kilometers from the center of Kota Kinabalu City. It covers an area of 114.65 acres and the area being developed is 40 acres.
